RuPaul
sets Emmy record and becomes black artist with
more trophies
The
73rd edition of the Primetime Emmy Awards, the
most important award for television programs and
streaming services in the United States, took
place this Sunday night (19th) in Los Angeles,
presented by Cedric the Entertainer (of Good
Neighbor and A Gang of the Hardcore). The
ceremony had a limited number of guests and a
mandatory Covid-19 test for everyone and
many very colorful looks.
Big
winners were Ted Lasso, for Best Comedy
Series, The Crown, for Best Drama Series,
and The Queen's Gambit for Best Limited Series,
the latter two guaranteeing nine statuettes for Netflix,
including technical categories. Winners are chosen
by an Academy, the Academy of Television Arts
& Sciences (ATAS).
RuPaul
Andre Charles, 60-year-old actor and drag
queen, made history tonight by winning yet another
Emmy. The artist took home his 11th
statuette and set a record, becoming the black
artist with the most trophies at the awards.
In
his speech after winning the fourth consecutive
award for best competition program for "RuPaul
Drag Race", the presenter thanked the
Academy and fans of the program.
