Rush
at show in Texas leaves 8 dead, festival is canceled
Opening
of the Astroworld music festival, in Houston,
brought together 50,000 people
At
least eight people died and many were injured
after fans rushed onto the stage on the opening
night of the Astroworld Music Festival on
Friday (11/5th) in Houston, Texas, in the United
States, officials said.
Houston's
fire chief, Samuel Peña, confirmed the
numbers of the victims in an interview outside
Parque NRG, the site of the event, which gathered
around 50,000 people.
The
tragedy led to the cancellation of the second day
of the festival.
Peña
said the crowd that had gathered for rapper Travis
Scott's performance moved toward the stage,
causing panic, running and pushing and shoving.
People
started to pass out and the confusion increased.
The fire chief called the case "an incident
with mass casualties."
Firefighters
took 17 people to hospitals, and 11 of them were
in cardiac arrest, the corporation said.
"No
one has all the answers tonight," said
Houston Police Chief Troy Finner. "We have
injured families here," he added.
Live
Nation, responsible for the event, did not respond
to requests for comments made by the US
media.
The
“Houston Chronicle” reported that rapper
Travis Scott stopped his show several times when
he noticed fans in danger near the stage. He asked
security to help them out of the mess.
