Democrat
Joe Biden, 78, took office on Wednesday
(1/20) as the 46th president of the United States,
succeeding Republican Donald Trump.
Lady
Gaga sang the United States anthem during
Biden's inauguration as president on Wednesday
(20) and was thrilled at the end of the
presentation.
The
singer made a powerful performance. She was
accompanied by the Marines band. Gaga wore a black
blazer and red skirt, accompanied by a gold brooch
with the symbol of peace.
On
Twitter, Gaga commented on the choice: "a
dove carrying an olive branch. May we all make
peace with each other."
Jennifer
Lopez sang the song "This land is our
land". During the performance, the singer
recited in Spanish part of the "Pledge of
Allegiance", which is an oath taken by the
Americans to the flag in civic ceremonies: "A
nation under God, indivisible, with freedom and
justice for all". An American of Puerto Rican
origin, Lopez was an important voice on the
impacts of the coronavirus pandemic on the Latin
community.
The
closing was in charge of Garth Brooks, country
singer who sang "Amazing Grace". Written
in 1772, just a few years before American
independence, the song is a hymn about Christian
salvation that is often sung in official
ceremonies in the United States.
Campaign
support
Lady
Gaga had already taken Biden's side during the
campaign, asking for votes for the then Democratic
candidate on social media. In addition, she also
attended a rally on the eve of the elections in
Pittisburgh, Pennsylvania, and praised her friend.
"For
all women, and all men with daughters, sisters and
mothers, everyone, no matter how you identify
yourself, now is your chance to vote against
Donald Trump, a man who believes his fame gives
you the right to grab one of your daughters, or
sisters, or mothers, or wives, by any part of
their body. "
