Music-
George Michael is finally laid to rest during a private funeral in
London
The
pop icon was buried during an intimate ceremony at
Highgate Cemetery just over three months after he
passed away on Christmas Day
George
Michael’s family and friends –
including his former boyfriend Fadi Fawaz
– arrived at the private funeral earlier today
at 2pm.
Rumoured
guests reportedly included good friends Kate
Moss and Martin Kemp.
It
has taken so long for George to be buried after he
had to undergo an extensive autopsy to confirm the
cause of death.
Earlier
this month a coroner confirmed that the star had
had dilated cardiomyopathy, a condition in which
the heart’s ability to pump blood is decreased,
as well as suffering myocarditis, inflammation of
the heart muscle, and a fatty liver.
“Inquires
into the death of George Michael have been
concluded and the final post mortem report
received,” Oxfordshire’s senior coroner Darren
Salter said in a statement.
“As
there is a confirmed natural cause of death, being
dilated cardiomyopathy with myocarditis and fatty
liver, the investigation is being discontinued and
there is no need for an inquest or any further
inquiries.
“No
further updates will be provided and the family
requests the media and public respect their
privacy.”
George’s
funeral comes days after a Damien Hirst painting
of the icon raised $580,000 for a HIV/AIDS
charity he had set up with his former partner
Kenny Goss.
